Mac Meeting Minutes

Bobbie, our President, called the meeting together at 2:10 PM. There were 22 people in attendance. Most snowbirds have flown to their other homes. Bobbie let us know that Harold donated three keyboards to the club and they were put on the “Raffle Table.” The next meeting is scheduled for May 14th. A reminder from Bobbie that DiscGenius (for defragging) and Data Rescue are available for members to check out. Bobbie stated that the “Help Desk” is great if any help is needed. Five raffle tickets were drawn before turning the meeting over to Ernie who had a demo on GarageBand. Ernie's Notes

Ernie started by calling his demo a “Show & Tell.” We all have iLife suite on our Macs, iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand. Garage Band takes up a lot of space and some of us may have deleted it. Ernie had given his Grandsons who live in Salt Lake City, a computer so that he and his wife could stay “connected” with them. He then shared with us a project that his Grandsons created using Garage Band. They took the background music of a tune and wrote their own words to sing over the background music. It was posted on uTube. They were 13 and 11 at the time. Ernie asked “How did you do that” and decided he had to learn how to do it too. He said “it’s all very easy, you need to be willing to take some risks.” He then shared a project of his own where he played the sax along with purchased music. And the group thinks he sounded great. You can get the accompaniment track from the Hal Leonard corporation.

There are many resources for GarageBand. The Help menu in GarageBand, Apple tutorials, a learning program from Stanford U Composing Tutorial and Standford U Editing Tutorial and Bowling Green State U. for example. He then opened GarageBand (in dock) and demonstrated how several different things can be done. He reiterated again that this was a “Show and Tell” not a teaching lesson but we learned a lot.

Big Tip: Get your grand kids involved. They’ll teach you a lot. ernie

The demo ended at 3:30 PM. It was open questions before the group broke out to Round Table discussions. There were questions on scanning and strange things that happen with iPhones. The last raffle, for members only, was called and the meeting adjourned at 4:00PM.
