The meeting was called to order by President Bobbie at 2:00.
Bobbie talked about how she has lost her flash drive and wants to remind all of us to back up our computers AND flash drives.
To Back up:
You need an External Drivel to back up on. Backup all drives you have.
Talked about old zip drives and obsolete storage, and how to put on
New flash drives.
We drew 6 tickets for the raffle.
Jean Amico’s talk was on Scams, Hoaxes’ and how to get rid of them.
If any one with a strong accent calls and says there is something wrong with
Your computer it’s a hoax.
There is a $50.00 scam. You will NOT win $50.00.
Check your “Junk” mail to be sure everything in it is really junk.
Jean showed how to separate and put a certain word or person into a separate file.
Only “Unsubscribe” if you know the account. On others it is a way for them to
know you have looked at the e-mail and they will send you more.
Phishing is a way for web sites to know that you looked and are interested.
Scam is a way for people to get something from you.
Snopes.com is a good way to find out if something is real. Hoax Slayer is another good one. You can also check for scams at Reddit.com/r/scams or Onguardonline.gov.
Macmost.com has a lot of information on their web site to draw from.
Jean will give details on malware, this happens when every time you open your computer there is a window open that will now go away.
General questions were asked and we broke into separate groups.
Meeting adjourned at 4:00.
