WALETA utilizes the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training curriculum devised in 2005 by the AZ POST Board. This Board was created by the 28th Arizona legislature on July 1, 1968, as the Arizona Law Enforcement Officer Advisory Council (the name was changed in 1994).
AZ POST was established to address the need for uniform police officer selection, recruitment, retention, and training standards for all certified law enforcement training facilities. It now oversees the certification process for law enforcement officers in the State of Arizona. AZ POST provides services to approximately 170 law enforcement agencies encompassing over 14,400 sworn peace officers and 9,000 correctional service officers.
